After a wonderful eight days in Costa Rica, my family and I flew home from Liberia airport.
After clearing security we thought about grabbing a bite to eat.
There was one food service establishment and a bar. A slice of pizza was $12. Not an entire pizza but a 6 inch square slice.
I’ve traveled all over the world and it is difficult to shock me with the price of airport food, but Liberia set the bar for outrageous (a bottle of water, by the way, was $4).
What happens at the end of an experience stays with us because of the recency effect (the principle that the most recently presented items or experiences will most likely be remembered best).
It struck me that the department of tourism in Costa Rica might want to encourage more palatable prices at the airport. After all, the most bio-diverse country in the world offers an extraordinary experience. Why scar it with an insanely priced pizza slice as the last remembrance of the trip?
