Brett Favre’s retirement has captured our attention because in an age of high profile athletes who often feel no responsibility for the example they set, Favre was a stand-up guy. He was concerned about the example he set, and he set an outstanding one.

One of his comments to the media was most telling. He said “…if my legacy was just about statistics, I did something wrong…”

His legacy or your’s isn’t about the money made but the difference made. Favre had an impressive resume in Green Bay and made a great deal of money, but that isn’t why fans regret his retirement. He exemplified humanness: he was an ordinary person just like us all and he did his job in an extraordinary way. He loved the game he played and that’s one primary reason he played it well. But if you ask me, he seemed to love the people he played the game with, and played the game for.
