Washington doesn’t get it. One reason so many Americans are opposed to the “bailout” bill is because they’re opposed to a bailout. The average American has not been educated nor sold on the benefit to “mainstreet.” The bill is in actuality a “wealth preservation bill” or a “financial rescue bill.” We’re not rewarding Wall Street for being stupid; we’re trying to stabilize the markets before any more of our wealth is destroyed as it was on Monday when the market dropped 778 points.
People can’t support what they don’t understand, especially when the phraseology used is so inaccurate and misleading.
Politicians get elected by carefully crafting their messages and using words wisely. Why do they forget to do that once elected?
I am convinced we need a good financial rescue bill and we need it soon. Congress unnecessarily destroyed wealth–stocks, home values, retirement plans–by being stupid, petty and lazy. They didn’t try to sell the benefits of the plan to Americans, got caught up in partisan bickering and proved that you can get elected without any knowledge of basic economics.
Let’s hope that start selling what is necessary and right for the country, not just themselves.
