There is something that can rob us of focus, kill the effectiveness of what we’re doing and diminish the quality of our lives. When it comes to living fully, this threat is deadly.
What is it?
Distractions. Background noise. Static. Interruptions. Drifting. The attention grabbing but action interrupting.
We are bombarded with distractions and volunteer for many of them. We constantly check our text messages, emails, voicemails and Facebook accounts. We twitter, talk and took off on tangents.
Can some of those activities be purposeful? Of course some can, but not all.
Distractions are those things that prevent us from doing the important work we should be about.
(And I hope this blog wasn’t a distraction for you today.)
Mark
Your entry wasn’t a distraction at all – in fact, it helped me clarify something. I’d just been writing in my journal that I’d been occupied all day with practical busy-ness and hadn’t found (or rather, made) any real time for God. So your entry was a timely way of underlining my realisation that I need to structure my day around the really important stuff -starting with God, but also applying the approach to my work and the other dimensions of my life.
Thanks
